Spades is a display face with expressive ink traps and sharp serifs with five weights ranging from thin to black. Spades is inspired in part by the early Black Arts Movement and 70s sci-fi cinema, leveraging both of these visual styles as the project's north star. Spades is named after and pays homage to a series of works by David Hammons. It exudes style yet incorporates utilitarian principles, allowing it to function at large and small sizes.
